What are RSS Feeds?

RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication. It's an easy way for you to keep up with news and information that's important to you, and helps you avoid the conventional methods of browsing or searching for information on websites. Now the content you want can be delivered directly to you without cluttering your inbox with e-mail messages. This content is called a "feed."

How Do I Use RSS Feeds?

The first step is to choose an RSS reader. Each reader has a slightly different way of adding a new feed, also called a "channel." Follow the directions for your reader but, in most cases you can do the following:

  • Click on the link for the feed and then click on “Subscribe to this fee”. For example, click on Bids and RFP’s. You'll see a page displaying the list items in the feed, just click on “Subscribe to this feed”.
  • Click on the link and then copy the URL (web address). For example, the URL you would copy for Bids and RFP’s would be: http://www.woodburn-or.gov/feeds/bids.rss. Paste that URL into the "Add New Channel" section of the reader. The RSS feed will start to display and regularly update the headlines for you.
  • If you are using Internet Explorer 7 or greater you can click on the RSS Feed icon on the toolbar at the top and choose the feed you want to subscribe to.
It really is that easy and now you can stay up-to-date with what's happening in the City!
