City Files Lawsuit Seeking Court Order and Injunction Against Marion County COVID-19 Isolation Center
On Thursday, July 9, based on a directive issued by the Woodburn City Council, Woodburn’s City Attorney filed a lawsuit in Marion County Circuit Court seeking a court order against the County to cease operations of the Super 8 Hotel COVID-19 Isolation Shelter, which the City maintains is operating in violation of the City Zoning & Development Ordinance. The City‘s complaint also states that Marion County’s COVID-19 Isolation Shelter poses a public safety risk to the surrounding neighborhoods, which includes a significant number of Woodburn’s senior community.
The City first learned of the Marion County’s plans to utilize the Super 8 Hotel as a COVID-19 Isolation Center on June 16, 2020, and did not participate in the County’s planning for the use of the site, which Marion County said would begin operating on July 1. City Administrator Scott Derickson said, “We were surprised and concerned to learn of the County’s proposed use of the Super 8 Hotel as a COVID-19 site. Had the City and the community been afforded an opportunity to participate in the County’s planning and due diligence process I believe the current issue could have been avoided. As it stands, the City believes that the use of the Super 8 Hotel as a COVID-19 Isolation Shelter violates existing law.”

В иске Города также указано, что изоляционный приют округа Марион создает угрозу общественной безопасности для окружающих районов, включая значительное число коммун для пожилых в Вудбэрне.
